A Savior Who Heals
Jesus didn’t just come to forgive sin—He came to heal the whole person.
“He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.” — Matthew 8:17
In a world plagued by sickness, disease, and emotional pain, the question still echoes: Is healing still for today? And more personally: Can Jesus heal me?
This blog explores the biblical foundation for divine healing, reveals Jesus as our Healer, and shows how faith opens the door to experience His wholeness in body, soul, and spirit.
God’s Nature Is to Heal
Healing is not just something God does—it’s part of who He is.
“I am the Lord who heals you.” — Exodus 15:26
This name—Jehovah Rapha—is one of the covenant names of God, revealing His eternal character. God doesn’t change (Malachi 3:6). If He was the Healer in the Old Testament, and Jesus healed in the Gospels, and the Apostles healed in the New Testament, then healing is still His will today.
Jesus the Healer in the Gospels
Everywhere Jesus went, He healed:
“And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all.” — Matthew 12:15
He healed:
Lepers (Mark 1:40–42)
The blind (John 9)
The lame (John 5:1–9)
The demonized (Luke 8:26–39)
The hemorrhaging woman (Mark 5:25–34)
Jairus’s daughter (Mark 5:35–43)
Healing was not a side ministry—it was central to His mission.
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil…” — Acts 10:38
Healing and the Cross
At the cross, Jesus purchased more than forgiveness—He purchased healing.
“By His stripes we are healed.” — Isaiah 53:5
This prophecy was fulfilled in Jesus and referenced by Matthew in 8:17 and by Peter in 1 Peter 2:24.
The same sacrifice that removes sin also breaks the power of sickness. Healing is in the redemption.
Healing in the Early Church
The ministry of healing didn’t end with Jesus—it continued with His followers:
Peter heals the lame man (Acts 3)
Paul heals the sick on Malta (Acts 28:8–9)
The church prays and people are healed (James 5:14–16)
“These signs will follow those who believe In My name… they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” — Mark 16:17–18
The early Church expected healing because it was part of the Gospel.
Healing: Spirit, Soul, and Body
Biblical healing is holistic:
Spiritual healing —the New Birth and forgiveness of sin (Psalm 103:3)
Emotional healing — freedom from trauma, fear, depression (Luke 4:18)
Physical healing — restoration from disease and pain (Matthew 9:35)
God’s heart is wholeness (shalom)—peace and restoration in every area of life.
The Role of Faith in Healing
Faith doesn’t force God to heal—but it positions us to receive what grace has already provided.
“Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace and be healed…” — Mark 5:34
Faith is not hype. It’s not pretending sickness isn’t real. Faith is trust in God’s Word above circumstances.
What Faith Looks Like:
Believing God’s promises
Refusing fear and doubt
Acting on His Word
Speaking life over your body
“The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.” — James 5:15
Common Hindrances to Healing
Many Christians don’t receive healing—not because God withholds it—but because of:
a) Unbelief
“He could do no mighty work there… because of their unbelief.” — Mark 6:5–6
Unbelief closes the door to the supernatural.b) Ignorance
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” — Hosea 4:6
If you don’t know healing is available, you won’t reach for it.c) Bitterness or Unforgiveness
“A broken spirit dries the bones.” — Proverbs 17:22
Bitterness can literally affect your physical health.d) Misunderstanding God’s Will
Many believe God might heal—if it’s His will. But Jesus never refused a person who came to Him in faith.
“I am willing; be cleansed.” — Matthew 8:3
Healing and the Kingdom of God
Healing is a manifestation of the kingdom of God on earth.
“The kingdom of God has come near to you.” — Luke 10:9
Wherever the kingdom is preached, healing should follow. Healing is the evidence that Jesus is alive and His authority is present.
Testimonies: Fuel for Faith
One of the most powerful tools for healing ministry is the testimony.
“The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” — Revelation 19:10
When you hear what God has done for someone else, it ignites hope and faith that He can and will do the same for you.
Examples:
A child healed of deafness during a prayer meeting
A woman’s cancer vanishing after communion
A man set free from years of chronic pain through worship
These aren’t fairy tales—they are signs that Jesus is still the Healer.
Practical Steps to Walk in Healing
a) Fill Yourself with the Word
Scriptures like:
Isaiah 53:5
Psalm 103:2–5
Matthew 8:17
1 Peter 2:24
Speak them, meditate on them, believe them.
b) Guard Your Heart and Mouth
Life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Don’t speak sickness—speak healing.
c) Receive Prayer
“Let them call the elders… anoint him with oil…” — James 5:14
There is power in agreement and spiritual authority.d) Take Communion
The body and blood of Jesus established the covenant of salvation, healing and provision. Don’t take it out of tradition—take it with expectation.
e) Refuse Fear
Fear fuels sickness. Faith activates healing. Choose to dwell in God’s peace (Philippians 4:6–8).
Healing Is a Sign, Not the Destination
Jesus healed multitudes, but not every person followed Him. Healing is a signpost that points to a deeper relationship.
Don’t just seek the gift—seek the Giver.
“Go and sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” — John 5:14
Healing is a door into holiness, discipleship, and purpose.
What About Delayed or Unseen Healing?
Not every healing is instant. Some are progressive. Some come from a combination of fatith and medical help.
But remember:
Delay is not denial.
Your identity is not your diagnosis.
God is still good—even when healing isn’t visible yet.
Keep believing. Keep trusting. Keep declaring His promises.
Healing and Evangelism
Healing is a powerful witness to the lost. Jesus used healing to draw crowds—and then preached the kingdom.
In the book of Acts, signs and wonders opened doors for the Gospel. The same is true today.
When people see:
The blind see
Addicts set free
Tumors disappear
…they want to know the Jesus behind the miracle.
You Can Lay Hands on the Sick
Healing is not just for preachers. Every believer has access to God’s healing power.
“They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” — Mark 16:18
God is looking for vessels. You don’t have to feel powerful—just available.
Declare This Today
“Jesus, You are my Healer. I believe Your Word. By Your stripes I am healed—spirit, soul, and body. I renounce sickness and every lie of the enemy. I receive Your healing power today. I will walk in divine health, and I will testify of Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Jesus Is Still Healing Today
Healing didn’t stop with the apostles. It didn’t die out in the first century. Jesus is alive—and He still heals.
Whether your pain is physical, emotional, or spiritual—He sees you. He loves you. And He is willing.
Let faith arise in your heart. Let hope replace despair. Jesus, your Healer, is here—and His touch can make you whole.
